The much-anticipated annual event saw the Executive Mayor Cllr Princess Faku declare the summer season open. In her message she encouraged BCM residents to stay in the Metro during this festive season.
"As the city we promise to prioritize your safety," said Faku. She added that the Metro condemns Gender Based Violence (GBV) and underage drinking.
"We ask everyone under the age of 18 to not drink alcohol. There are other ways to have fun than to drink," she said. In her closing remarks she asked those of drinking age to drink responsibly, not neglect children and not drink and drive. Locals were part of the experience, where they enjoyed the fireworks display, live performances by both local and national artists.
Families are encouraged to bring their children to the entertainment area that has been staged at the beach front. The kids’ entertainment area includes the Santa Orient Express, children's merry-go-round and a train. The area will be officially opened on the following day, Monday the 4th of December to avoid congestion. Both the train and the merry-go-round operate free of charge.
