On Friday, 05 June, the Executive Mayor Xola Pakati handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to Hlokoma High School in Mdantsane.

This is part of helping the school get ready to welcome learners for the reopening of school on Monday the 7th of June 2020.
Speaking at the school, Pakati said: “We are here to supply the school with PPEs in preparation for next week’s reopening.”
Pakati said the programme of supply schools with PPEs is a responsibility of the Department of Education.
“Even though this is a programme of the Department of Education (DOE) there is no malice in helping our own community.”
“We saw the need as leaders to come in and help as these are our children and that has become our responsibility as the City,” said Pakati.
The Executive Mayor also strongly condemned the vandalising of schools during the lockdown saying that this undermines the future of potent leader and academia.
“We condemn the acts of vandalism that has been happening during this time. Hlokoma High School was vandalised as result there is no water for drinking and for washing hands. Water is one of the important things need in fighting affections of COVID -19,” said the Executive Mayor.
Pakati has promised to get the school a water tank saying: “Covid-19 does not have a vaccine so we are trying by all means to observe its protocols by social distancing, washing and sanitizing our hands.”
